Trachycarpus fortunei also known as the Chusan palm or Chinese windmill palm is a hardy evergreen palm tree suitable for UK gardens. It has a tropical look and is ideal to sue in your tropical landscape. The Windmill palm is exceptionally hardy in the cooler temperate climates of the UK and produces a single trunk with fan-shaped green leaves. Although hardy they may need protection during prolonged periods of cold weather.
Trachycarpus can be grown in pots which gives the extra advantage of being able to bring inside during the cold months. The palm can reach a height of 15 metres and the tree flowers in late Spring and summer. Given proper care the palm can live for decades.
